Diminished finger volume pulse in borderline hypertension: evidence for early structural vascular abnormality.
Digital volume pulse maximum dilation was determined in 27 patients with borderline essential hypertension (BHT) and 28 age-matched normotensive controls (NT). Finger pulse volume (PV) and finger systolic pressure (SBP) were measured by pneumoplethysmography during vasodilation induced by combining direct and reflex heat dilation and reactive hyperemia. Finger SBP was higher (p less than 0.01) ...
متن کاملCardiopulmonary blood volume in borderline hypertension.
1. A haemodynamic study which included estimation of cardiopulmonary blood volume (CPBV), total blood volume (TBV) and vascular reactivity to noradrenaline was performed in seventeen borderline and sixteen permanent hypertensive patients. 2. Borderline hypertensive patients had higher values of cardiac index, stroke index and heart rate when compared with the permanent hypertensive patients, an...
متن کاملFinger Pulse Volume in Patients with Panic Attacks
To study the peripheral blood flow in patients with panic attacks during "Stress" conditions, nine patients with history of panic attacks were subjected to mental stress of arithmetic calculation and room-air voluntary hyperventilation. Finger Pulse Volume (FPV) was significantly altered during the period following mental activity in untreated patients when compared to controls and patients und...
متن کاملRarefaction of skin capillaries in borderline essential hypertension suggests an early structural abnormality.
We recently showed that rarefaction of skin capillaries in the dorsum of the fingers of patients with essential hypertension is due to the structural (anatomic) absence of capillaries rather than functional nonperfusion. It is not known whether this rarefaction is primary (ie, antedates the onset of hypertension) or secondary (ie, as a consequence of sustained and prolonged elevation of blood p...
متن کاملFinger - Pulse Volume during Co2 Induced Panic States
Changes in Fingure-Pulse Volume (FPV) during CO(2) inhalation were studied in patients diagnosed as having Anxiety disorder with history of panic attacks. Waxing and Waning of the FPV was observed in all the cases after CO(2) inhalation, and this pattern was significantly intensified during panic attacks during the study. The significance and the mechanism underlying the same is discussed.
